Everyone deserves electricity they can count on, at a price they can afford.
But Trump administration policies are making it harder to build the clean energy projects that are proven to help lower electricity costs and cut the pollution harming our health.
That means:
- Higher electric bills
- More dependence on expensive, aging fossil fuel plants
- More pollution, which makes the air we breathe dirtier and leads to more intense hurricanes, heat waves, wildfires and floods
These harmful policies are costing people right now — and could cost us all even more in the years ahead.
How Trump administration actions are raising electricity prices
Electricity costs are rising for several reasons: volatile fossil fuel prices, the cost of keeping aging power plants in operation, extreme weather, grid strain and skyrocketing demand. This is exactly the wrong time to block some of the fastest growing, most affordable new sources of power.
Clean energy sources like wind and solar are often cheaper to build and operate than fossil fuel plants, and both are more reliable than coal. They also make us less reliant on unstable global markets for fuel, which can help protect households from price spikes.
But instead of speeding up these lower-cost solutions, the Trump administration is delaying, freezing and canceling clean energy projects while backing older coal, oil and gas infrastructure. The result: higher costs and dirtier air.
What we can do today to turn things around
We can choose a better path, supporting existing clean energy investments and building out more affordable, homegrown clean energy. This can help lower bills, reduce harmful pollution and make our energy system more reliable.
